La luna estuvo maravillosa esta semana, la viste?

Así como los días de calma que tuvimos en casa. Decidí hacerme un regalo y ahora me siento como niña con juguete nuevo. Estos días han comenzado como siempre, con café, compañía canina y música pero he tenido más tiempo para coser. Ayer cociné pavo por primera vez y ahora sigo disfrutando del delicioso pay de queso que hizo mi mamá.

Comencé a trabajar en dos nuevos quilts que serán regalo para unas personas queridas, también he estado pensando en nuevos productos para mi tienda y  he utilizando mis letras vintage de madera que adquirí en la hermosa tienda de Lori. Realmente fue una buena semana.

The moon was really wonderful this week, do you saw it?

we had calm days at home. I decided to get a gift to myself and I feel like a child with a new toy. These days have started as usual with coffee, canine companion and music but I had more time to sew. I cooked turkey for the first time yesterday and now I'm still enjoying the delicious cheesecake made by my mom .

I started two new quilts that will be a gift for some people I love, also I've been thinking about new items for my shop and I've been using my vintage wood letterpress that I got from Lori's beautiful shop. It was a really good week.

Ha sido una semana de calma. Lejos de todo y sin mucha navidad por aquí, sólo lo que alcance a llegar de las luces de los vecinos. No hay tumultos, ni papel para envolver regalos ni caos, sólo una vaca pasó por mi calle hoy, a veces no se cómo ni de dónde, pero logran escabullirse de entre alguna cerca... y no estaba cantanto villancicos.

los planes para hoy? seguir igual, manteniendo el caos lejos de casa.

It's been a calm week. Far from everything and not much Christmas around here, only what we can get from the neighbor's lights. No crowds, wrapping paper or chaos here, only one cow pass by my street today, I don't know how or where, but sometimes they manage to sneak in between a fence ... and she wasn't singing carols.

the plans for today? do the same, keeping the chaos outside and away from here.

1. Hacer yogurt y comerlo con miel. Hecho.    Make yogurth and eat it with honey. Done.

2. Hacer jugo de mandarina. Hecho.      Make fresh tangerine juice. Done.

3. Ir al vivero por un árbol.      Go to the nursery to get a tree.

4. Organizar papeles. En proceso.     Organize my papers. In proccess.

5. Transplantar unas pequeñas suculentas. Hecho.     Transplanting succulents. Done.

6. Terminar el top de un quilt. Hecho.     Finish a quilt top. Done.

7. Comenzar otro. Hecho     Start another one. Done.

8. Ver a un querido amigo.    See a very dear friend.

9. Estar apartada del tráfico navideño. Hecho. Keep away from the christmas traffic. Done.

10. Dar una caminata. Una en la tarde. Have a walk. One last night

11. Probar una nueva receta de galletas. Buscando.  Try a new cookie recipe. Looking for it.

12. Hacer una sopa de tomate. En proceso. Make tomatoe soup. In process. 

13. Poner música que tenía mucho sin oír. Hecho. Listen music that I had too much time without enjoy. Done.

14. Organizar mis telas. En proceso. Organized my fabric stash. In process.

15. Reír y dormir bien. Hecho! Laugh and sleeping good. Done!

Stupid is as stupid does...

El fin de semana pasado comencé a hacer el quilting de esta colcha. Lo primero fue decidir el color del hilo y aunque al principio pensé en usar blanco, finalmente me decidí por uno con una  mezcla de diferentes azules.... todo iba bien, hasta que me terminé los dos carretes que tenía... y aunque no suena a un problema mayor, bueno, pues ese tipo de hilo no lo venden donde vivo... por qué no  pensé en eso antes de comenzar? (sí, ya se que la respuesta a esa pregunta está en el título de este post...)

Esos hilos mi mamá me los trajo de Joann la última vez que fue a Arizona... ...ahora tengo el 80% del trabajo hecho, pero me quedé sin hilo... cambiaré de color? no me gusta la idea... alguien sabe si puedo conseguir esos hilos en México (preferentemente en Guadalajara) ?

Last weekend I started doing the quilting on this quilt. The first thing was to decide the color of thread and although at first I was thinking in white, I finally decided on one with a blended of blues.... everything was great until I finished the two spools that I had ... and although it do not sounds like a big problem, well, the thing is that kind of thread I cant' find them where I live... why I didn't think about it before start? (ok, I get it, that answer is in the title of this post...)

 These threads brought my mother from Joann last time she visited Arizona ... ... now I have 80% of the quilting done, but I ran out of thread ... change the color? I do not like the idea ... anyone knows a place where I can find those threads in Mexico (preferably in Guadalajara)?

...en casa, sin prisas, haciendo lo que quiero y cuando quiero... estos días de vacaciones estaremos aquí, tomándonos tiempo para nosotros, pero siempre con música...

...at home, without hurry, making what I want and when I want it... these days off we will be here, just taking time for us, but always with music...

Hoy, como muchos 15 de diciembre anteriores, es mi último día de trabajo de este año. Durante dos semanas mi lugar de trabajo estará cerrado y para todos los que laboramos ahí, mañana comienzan las vacaciones de invierno.

Alguna vez he dicho que me gustaría que mis vacaciones no fueran en esta temporada sino en una en que viajar no fuera tan caro, o que yo pudiera elegir la fecha, sin embargo, no puedo negar que para mí y todos los que hoy acudiremos a mi trabajo, hoy es un día feliz...

 Today, like many past December 15th days, is my last day of work for this year. For two weeks my workplace will be closed and for all who work there, tomorrow begins the winter holidays.

Sometimes I ever said I would like my vacation will not be in this season, I would like it be in another season in which travel it is not so expensive, or I would love could choose the time to take my days off, however, I can't deny that for me and all the people who will be at my job to work,  today is a very happy day...

Me encantan los libros de cocina, los utencilios y todo lo relacionado con la preparación de alimentos... pero la verdad es que poco uso esos libros, practicamente me sirven de inspiración y algunas veces para conocer alguna técnica en especial, pero nunca sigo las recetas al pie de la letra. Siempre improviso: un poco de esto y aquéllo y un poco menos de esto otro. Usando lo que tengo a la mano. Preparando lo que en ese momento pase por mi cabeza. Me encanta hacerlo y soy afortunada de tener un hombre que siempre está dispuesto a probar mis inventos o descubrimientos...

I love cookbooks, utensils and everything related to food preparation ... but the truth is that I almost never use those books, they just be here to inspire me and sometimes to know some special technique, but I never follow recipes to the letter. Always I'm improvising when cooking: a little of this and that and a little less of this one. Using what I have on hand. Doing what passes through my head. I love doing it and I am fortunate to have a man who is always willing to try my inventions or discoveries...

pumpkin cake

Estuve buscando recetas sobre pan de calabaza en internet y en algunos libros. Las probé, les agregué algunos ingredientes y descarté otros tantos y una vez que obtuve el pastel que más me gustó, con gusto aquí les comparto la receta.... ...deliciosa y fácil de hacer...

I was looking for pumpkin cake recipes on the Internet and some cook books. I tried some of those, I added some ingredients and anothers was discarded and once that I had the cake that I liked, gladly I'm sharing the recipe here... ...yummy and easy to make.

Ingredientes:

2 tazas de pure de calabaza fresco o enlatado (si quieres saber cómo se hace pincha aquí)
3 huevos
1 taza de aceite de canola
3/4 de taza de leche o jugo de naranja
1 1/2 taza de azúcar morena
4 tazas de harina integral
1/2 cucharadita de sal
2 cucharaditas de bicarbonato
2 cucharaditas de polvo para hornear
2 cucharadas de canela
3/4 de semillas de calabaza peladas
1/2 taza de nuez picada
1/2 taza de arándanos deshidratados

Ingredients:
2 cups of homemade pumpkin puree, or canned (want to know how make it? click here)
3 eggs
1 cup of canola oil
1 1/2 cup of brown sugar
3/4 cup of milk or orange juice
4 cups of whole wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon of salt
2 teaspoons of baking soda
2 teaspoons of baking powder
2 spoons of cinnamon
1/2 cup of peeled pumpkin seeds
1/2 cup of dried cranberries
1/2 cup of chopped nuts

Preparación:

Precalentar el horno a 180°C. En un tazón mezclar el azúcar con todos los ingredientes húmedos. Incorporar los ingredientes secos y al final poner las semillas, nueces y arándanos y batir hasta que queden bien incorporados.
Vaciar en moldes y honear por aproximadamente 40-50 minutos o hasta que insertes un palillo y éste salga limpio. Desmolda, deja enfria y disfruta!
La receta es suficiente para hacer una rosca o dos moldes de barra.

Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Beat all wet ingredients with the sugar until they be smooth. Combine dry ingredients and then put the seeds, nuts and cranberries. Mix together thoroughly until entirely moistened and well-blended. Bake for 40-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.Turn out of the pan and let cool and enjoy!
Makes two loaf or a bundt pan.
 
El pan puede quedar un poco húmedo y es delicioso con o sin alguna cobertura o mermelada. This cake can be a little moist and is truly delicious with or without a topping.
