Finalmente decidí hacer el free motion quilting en este quilt. Inicialmente comencé el acolchado con líneas rectas, pero fue un desastre, pues las telas son muy pesadas y a mi Juki puede adaptársele un walking foot. Luego pensé en mandarlo acolchar, pero al mismo tiempo lo ví como un gasto innecesario, sobretodo porque yo puedo hacerlo. Después decidí acolcharlo a mano, pero la idea no me convencía del todo... pero después de leer este post, me pareció que le estaba dando muchas vueltas y lo mejor era que yo hiciera el acolchado libre. Es la primera vez que lo hago en un quilt de tamaño decente y aunque al principio estaba temerosa (no tengo mucha experiencia en ello y mi pequeña máquina tampoco es la mejor), poco a poco fui dándome cuenta que en realidad no es muy difícil, sólo es, como dicen las expertas en el tema, cuestión de práctica...

Por lo pronto estoy muy satisfecha con el trabajo en este quilt y espero seguir mejorando en acolchado libre.

Finally I decided to do free motion quilting on this quilt. Initially I started the quilting with straight lines, but it was a really disaster, because the fabrics are very heavy and my Juki can't have a walking foot. Then I thought of sending it to somebody for a quilting in a long arm machine, but at the same time I saw it as an unnecessary expense of money, especially because I can do it! Then I decided to quilting it by hand, but the idea didn't convince me at all ... so after reading this post, I thought the better way would be make the free motion quilting. It is the first time I do that on a decent sized quilt and though at the beggining I was afraid (I haven't experience with it and my small machine is not the best), I gradually realizing that it's really not very difficult, and like the experts says, is just matter of practice ...

I am very satisfied with this quilt and hope to keep improving my work on free motion quilting.

Esta es la parte de atrás. La hice utilizando los bloques que me sobraron y me encantó el resultado. These is the back. I made it using the leftover blocks from the top and I love how it looks.

El fin de semana pasado hice estos simples cojines para acompañar a este quilt. El primero lo hice con los retazos que me sobraron y un poco de tela en azul marino. En los dos siguientes además usé lino en azul. The last weekend I made these simple pillows to match with this quilt. The first one i did it using the leftovers and some navy fabric. For the others i also used linen in blue.

esto es un poco de lo que hice este fin de semana... this is some what i did last weekend...

una nueva funda de cojín... con un poco de applique (sólo el sol) y free motion quilting... para seguir practicándolo... a new pillow cover with a little bit of apliqque (only the sun) and free motion quilting... to keep practice...

y también hice cuatro bloques de log cabin para un nuevo quilt que traigo en mente... para alguien especial... and algo i did four log cabin blocks for a new quilt i have in my mind... to someone special

el resto del tiempo estuvimos en el jardín, viendo películas y visitando a la familia...the rest of the time we was at garden, watching movies and visit the family...

log cabin pillows

Feliz mañana de lunes!! siguiendo con los tonos de otoño, este fin de semana hice estas fundas de cojines, la idea era sólo usar retazos y lo cumplí!! :) y aunque al principio no sabía muy bien cómo hacerlos me decidí por el log cabin, pues al final de todo es mi diseño de block favorito y yo no había hecho nada con él para nuestra casa.

Happy morning monday!! I went with the colors of autumn and this weekend i made these cushion covers, the idea was to use only sccraps and i did it! :) And although at first I was not sure how I make them, i decided to make the log cabin desing, is my favorite design block and I had not anything with it to our house.

y con algo de nervios y después de muuucho tiempo, intenté de nuevo con el free motion quilting... esta vez fue mejor, todavía me falta mucha práctica yo lo sé, pero esta vez no rompí ni una sola aguja ni salieron culebras y sapos a gritos de mi boca, por el contrario, fue una buena tarde de quilting! with a bit of nerves and after tooo much time, I tried again with the free motion quilting ... This time was better, I still haven't a lot of practice I know, but this time I don't broke a single needle and this time don't came screaming snakes and toads out of my mouth, by contrast, was a good afternoon of quilting!

y estos son mis nuevos mejores amigos para quilting. Son un regalo de mi mamá y aunque yo había usado antes los clásicos guantes de jardinería con hule, siempre me quedaban grandes (aquí sólo los venden unitalla).. pero ahora estos son como parte de mi mano y facilitaron muuucho mi trabajo!! and these are my new best friends for quilting. They are a gift from my mom and although I had used the classics gardening gloves before, but it's always fits large to me (here only sell one size fits all)... but now these are like part of my hand and facilitated tooo much my job!!

la mejor compra y mi favorito: sin duda "the modern quilt workshop"... dan ganas de hacer todos los quilts que ese libro trae, además de que trae las cantidades de tela que se necesitan para cada proyecto, todos se presentan con la opción de hacerlos en diferentes medidas y con variación de colores. Es un super libro. Best Buy and my fav: surely "the modern quilt workshop" ... feel like doing all that this book brings quilts, besides bringing the quantities of material needed for each project, all presented with the option of making them in different sizes and with varying colors. It's a super book.

el más novedoso: "free & easy stitch style" y espero que me ayude un poco con el free motion quilting y apliqque... trae muchos tips para hacer esta técnica más sencilla y también tiene proyectos simples pero lindos a la vista. the newest: "free & easy stitch style" and I hope that help me a little with the free motion quilting and apliqque... it brings many tips to make this technique is also simple and it have easy and beautiful projects.

con más proyectos: "quilting in no time" y son clasificados según los diferentes lugares de la casa, desde la cocina hasta el baño, contiene proyectos para adultos y niños. with more projects: "quilting in no time" and are classified according to different places in the house from the kitchen to the bathroom, includes projects for adults and children.

el más "girly": por supuesto "sew sunny homestyle", lo que es bastante distintivo en los libros de Tilda y aunque creo que las cosas que ahí se presentan tiene poca cabida en una casa en donde viva un hombre, siempre es agradable a la vista de cualquier fémina hojear ese libro y soñar con habitaciones tan románticas y femeninas... the most "girly" of course "sew sunny homestyle", which is quite distinctive in Tilda's books and although I think they're proyects that has little place in a house where a man alive, but it's always nice for any female leaf through this book and dreaming with romance and all those girl's rooms....

el más ilustrado: "material obsession", es un libro estupendo que no estoy muy segura de cómo clasificarlo, todos sus proyectos son muy lindos, y aunque me parece que casi todos los quilts que se presentan son más para mujeres y niños, también trae algunos que podrían ser un excelente quilt para un hombre. Tiene muy buenas fotos y también dibujos. with more ilustrations: "material obsession" is a great book that I'm not quite sure how to classify it, all projects are so nice, and although it seems that almost all quilts are presented for women and children, also brings some which could be a great quilts for a man. It has very good photos and drawings.

y la compra sorprendentemente decepcionante: "Quilts" de Denyse Schmidt... y sobre este libro debo decir que absolutamente todos sus quilts son fantásticos y me encantan!! y precisamente porque ya había visto algunos de ellos en diferentes sitios es que ordené el libro... lo que me decepcionó es su método para trabajar, pues todos se hacen con moldes!!! en las instrucciones no se especifican los tamaños en que se debe cortar la tela sino que debes ir a la página de los patrones y fotocopiar tu patrón (ampliándolo al porcentaje que ahí se indica!!) y después recortar tus patrones y trazarlos sobre la tela para recortarlos y comenzar a coser! vamos, que por supuesto tengo la intención de hacer algunos quilts que me encantan, pero bueno, este detalle del proceso, me complicará un poco las cosas. and buying surprisingly disappointing: "Quilts" by Denyse Schmidt ... about this book I must say that all quilts are absolutely fantastic and I love them! and precisely because I had already seen some of them in different sites is that I ordered the book ... what disappoints me is they're approach to work, because all are made using templates! in the instructions did not specify the size that the material should be cut but you should go to the patterns page and copy patterns (and enlarge to the percentage that indicated there!!) and then cut your pattern and trace on fabric, cut and start sewing! of course I intend to make some quilts that I really love, but hey! this detail of the process, it will complicate me a bit.

Victoria de blog Bumblebeans siempre está trabajando en algo... y hace unos días pidió en su blog a un montón de quilters su cooperación para unirse a este proyecto, pues la diseñadora Jennifer Paganelli le donó unas telas de su colección Sis Boom y la idea es hacer 2 bloques y devolvérselos a Victoria para que ella pueda unirlas en un quilt que será destinado a la caridad.

Victoria from the bumblebeans blog is always doing something... few days ago she's asked a bunch of blog quilters to join her, as the designer Jennifer Paganelli donated fabric from her collection Sis Boom and the idea is to make 2 blocks and returning to Victoria back so that she can assemble them into a charity quilt.

y yo no pude resistir la tentación y ahora estoy dentro! and i could not resist and now i'm in!

olvidé decir que ella nos mandará las telas que nosotros usaremos? será chidísimo trabajar con telas que aún no conozco!! I forgot to say that she will send us the fabrics that we use? will be very cool to work with fabrics that i don't know yet!

Estoy muy emocionada con esto y al mismo tiempo un poco nerviosa porque, ya sabes, cuando estás cosiendo y te equivocas y ese error queda en casa no hay problema (sólo tu lo sabes), pero esta vez, los errores los podrán ver otras personas...

I'm very excited about this and at the same time a little nervous because, you know, when you are sewing and you make a mistake and that mistake is at home no problem (only you know it), but this time, other people can see the mistakes...

por lo pronto estoy pensando en lo que yo haré con mis 2 bloques... for now i'm thinking about what i'll do with my 2 blocks ...

baby quilt

Es la primera vez que hago un baby quilt y me pareció fantástico, porque es un proyecto para hacer en un día!!! aunque bueno, debo confesar que en mi caso fueron 3 días, porque sólo puedo usar parte de las tardes, una vez que vuelvo de la oficina...
Es un regalo para una amiga que tiene su babyshower el domingo.

y el acolchado fue mejor aún! continué con el free motion quilting y esta vez no hubo agujas rotas y sólo tuve que descoser una pequeña parte, nada significativo.

El fin de semana terminé los cojines que comencé la semana pasada. Fue divertido hacer estos bloques de 12", es un diseño fácil que se luce muchísimo.

Fueron hechos para mi hermano. Ya están en su cama ... y le gustaron!

ahhhh!! y fue mi primer experiencia en "free motion quilting". Hacía tiempo que quería intentarlo, pero no estaba muy segura de poder hacerlo. Busqué tutoriales y encontré unos que me ayudaron a entender esta técnica, los que más me gustaron los encontré aquí y aquí.

Comencé a practicar con pedazos de tela y guata. Al principio no lograba que quedara bien, pero poco a poco fui aumentando la tesión de la máquina y la apareciencia iba mejorando. También al practicar cada vez se maneja mejor la tela y se logran las puntadas más parejas. No fue perfecto, pero sí aceptable, todo radica en practicar y practicar y aunque gasté muchísimo hilo por las partes en que me equivoqué y tuve que descoser, al final valió la pena!!
