Anda Dress

Antes de salir de vacaciones me hice un vestido con el patrón Anda de Burda. Aunque crecí viendo a mi mamá cosiendo y coleccionando la revista, para mí fue la primera vez usando los patrones de Burda. Es un diseño sencillo y aunque no tiene las instrucciones muy detalladas, su construcción es realmente fácil y bueno, tampoco fue caro, pues costó $3.99. Usé una mezclilla delgada y se cose en un par de horas.

Before our vacation I made ​​a dress with the Burda Anda pattern. Although I grew up watching my mom sewing and collecting the magazine, this was the first time using Burda patterns to me. It is a simple design and although it hasn't very detailed instructions, its construction is really easy and also, it wasn't expensive because it cost $ 3.99. I used a thin denim and was done in a couple of hours.

El vestido es bastante cómodo de vestir, por lo que puede convertirse en un favorito y hace querer hacerme más, tal vez con algunas variaciones, tal vez usando lino o un algodón delgado.

The dress is very comfortable to wear, so it can become easily a favorite and makes me want to sew more, perhaps with some variations, perhaps using linen or a thin cotton.

 Sin duda, recomendaría este patrón para cualquier persona, pero sobretodo para quienes están aprendiendo a coser o empiezan a hacerse ropa, porque es muy fácil y sencillo de hacer y la simplicidad de su estructura hace que sea muy muy versátil. 

I would definitely recommend this pattern to anyone, especially someone who is learning to sew, because it is very easy and the simplicity of the pattern makes it really versatile.

Había estado viendo el patrón en internet desde hace mucho tiempo y por fin lo compré y me di un tiempo para sentarme a coser. Decidí empezar haciendo un top en lugar de un vestido. Sabina tiene ya 18 meses y corté la talla 2T que le quedó bien y seguro le durará un tiempo más. Usé tela de algodón de quilting que ya tenía y un poco de espiguilla para el detalle del frente.

 I had been looking at the pattern at internet since many time ago and finally I bought it and found some time to sew. I decided to make the top version instead the dress. Sabina is 18 months old and I cut the size 2T. It fits great on her and I hope it'll last some time more. I use some quilting cotton fabric that I had in my stash and a little bit of ric rac for the front detail.

Las instrucciones son muy claras y la construcción del patrón es verdaderamente sencilla, como para hacerlo en una tarde.The instructions are very clear and the pattern construction is very simple, easy to make it in one afternoon.

De hecho lo más difícil fue tomarle las fotos a Sabina, quien no quiso cooperar y sólo se dejó fotografiar sentada, así que les debo imágenes de pie.

sewing for myself: the everyday skirt

Aprovechando los días libres que tuve hace un par de semanas, me hice esta falda con el patrón "every day skirt" de Liesl + Co.

At the free days I had a couple of weeks ago, I made this skirt with the pattern "every day skirt" from Liesl + Co. 

el diseño es realmente perfecto para una falda de uso diario: tiene bolsillos a los lados, no tiene cierres ni botones, sino elástico sólo en la parte de atrás, pero no con una tira ancha sino que se usan dos elásticos de 1/2", lo que la hace muy cómoda.

the design is perfect for a everyday wear skirt: it has side pockets, no zippers or buttons, only elastic in the back using two bands of 1/2" elastic instead of one wide once, which also makes it very comfortable.

La tela que elegí fue algodón para quilting que ya tenía en mi "stash" y aunque no tiene gran cuerpo ni caída, funciona bien para este diseño y la podré usar todo el año.  

The fabric I chose was "quilting cotton" that I had in my stash. It hasn't great drape but works fine for it and It will be a good year round skirt .

En general, este patrón es magnífico, o al menos tiene mucho de lo que busco a la hora de coser: es rápido, fácil, la construcción es bastante inteligente y sobre todo el resultado final es una prenda muy cómoda y versátil. Se lo recomiendo a cualquiera, desde principiantes hasta profesionales.

Overall, this pattern is great, or at least has a lot of what I want when sewing: it's quick, easy, the construction is clever and most of all the end result is a very comfortable and versatile garment. I recommend it to anyone, from beginners to professionals.

Market Tote Tutorial

Bueno, por fin pude tener tiempo para hacer un tutorial para ustedes. Es algo simple y fácil, pero al mismo tiempo se trata de algo práctico y útil. Es una bolsa de mercado. Una grande para llevar todas tus compras y que te ayude a evitar usar bolsas de plástico.

Well, finally I could make a tutorial for you. it's something simple and easy but at the same something practical and useful. Its a market bag. A big one to carry all your groceries and to avoid use plastic bags.

Lo que necesitas / What you'll need:
1/2 yarda de tela estampada para exterior (usé una mezcla de lino y algodón)
3/4 yarda de tela en color sólida para exterior (yo usé tela color morado)
3/4 yarda de tela para forro (yo usé anaranjada)
hilo en color que combine

1/2 yard of print fabric for exterior (I use a linen/cotton blend)
3/4 yard solid fabric for exterior (mine is purple)
3/4 yard for lining (mine is orange)
thread

Cortar / Cut:
Tela estampada/Print fabric:
2 - 11" x 20"
Tela de color sólido/Solid fabric
2 - 8 1/2" x 20"
2 - 2 1/2" x 20"
2 - 4" x 40"(correas/straps)
Tela para forro/Lining fabric:
2 - 16 1/2" x 20"
2 - 7" x 14" ( bolsillos/pockets)



Instrucciones/Instructions:

1. Haz las correas

Dobla la tira de 4"x 40" con el derecho de la tela hacia adentro y cósela por toda la orilla larga. Voltea el derecho hacia afuera y plancha. Repite con la otra tira.

1. Make the handles.

Fold right sides together the 4"x 40" strip and and sew along the long edge.Turn it right side out and press into a long flat strip. Repeat with the other strip.

2. Forma el exterior de la bolsa

Cose juntos el rectángulo de 2 1/2 "x 20" de tela sólida en la parte superior del rectángulo de 11 "x 20" de tu tela estampada. Plancha las costuras y repite para el otro lado de tu bolso.

2. Assemble bag exterior.

Sew together the 2 1/2" x 20" solid fabric to the upper side of your 11" x 20" print fabric. Press seams and repeat to make bag back.

En la parte inferior de la tela estampada, haz una marca en 5.5 " de cada lado (este será tu señalamiento en donde pondrás las correas). Repite con la otra parte de la bolsa.

At bottom side of print fabric, mark 5.5" from each side (this will be your mark to put the handles). Repeat with the other print fabric.

Coloca una correa de la bolsa a partir de la marca de 5.5", préndelo con alfileres y termina en la otra señal que hiciste. Cósela con un pespunte en el borde de la correa por todo lo largo; antes de llegar a la parte en que la tela estampada se une con la de color sólido, da vuelta sin coser la correa sobre la tela de color sólido, sino que seguiràs cosiendo la correa sobre la tela estampada hasta la parte inferior, cose en los puntos de inicio y fin varias veces como refuerzo. Repite con el otro extremo de la misma correa y después repite con la otra pieza de la bolsa.

Pin one strap to the bag starting at the 5.5" mark and ending at the other 5.5" mark. Beginning at bottom topstitch along one strap edge until the point where solid and print fabrics meet. Sew across strap to the bottom edge; backstitch across the start and end points several times for reinforcement. Repeat with other end of same strap and repeat with the other exterior bag piece.

Coloca el rectángulo de 8 1/2 "x 20" de tela sólida en la parte inferior del cuerpo de la bolsa con el lado derecho hacia dentro. La parte inferior de la correa que ya pusiste debe quedar entre estas dos piezas. Cose a lo largo de la costura inferior, refuerza ambos extremos, plancha costuras y haz un pespunte sobre la tela sólida. Repite con tu otra pieza de bolsa exterior. Cada pieza debe verse así:

Place the 8 1/2" x 20" bottom piece on the upper piece with right sides together. The attached handle must be between those pieces. Pin and sew along the bottom seam, backstitching on both ends, press and topstitch the solid piece. Repeat for the other exterior bag piece. Each piece should be look like this:

3. Para hacer el forro de la bolsa

Haz los bolsillos. Dobla y cose el rectángulo de 7 "x 14", dejando una apertura de 3" para dar vuelta. Voltea el bolsillo a través de la abertura. Plancha y cose la abertura. Repetir para hacer el otro bolsillo.

3. Assemble Bag Lining

Make the pockets. Sew together one 7" x 14" rectangle, leaving a 3" opening along one edge for turning. Turn right side out through opening. Press and slip-stitch opening closed to make a pocket. Repeat to make another pocket.

Coloca un bolsillo SOBRE EL DERECHO de la tela del forro, céntralo y préndelo con alfileres. Cose alrededor de todo el perímetro del bolsillo, dejando la parte superior abierta. Repite con el otro bolsillo sobre la otra pieza del forro.

Pin one pocket TO THE RIGHT side of the lining piece centered on the lining center panel. Sew around entire perimeter of pocket, leaving the top open. Repet to the other lining piece.

4. Coser el exterior y forro.

Coloca la parte delantera y trasera de las piezas exteriores con el derecho hacia dentro. Préndelo con alfileres y cose el exterior a lo largo de los lados y el fondo, reforzando ambos extremos. Cose el forro de la misma manera, dejando una abertura de 4" en la parte inferior para voltear.

Para dar forma cuadrada a las esquinas inferiores de la bolsa, crea un triángulo aplanado en cada esquina, y marca una linea recta a 2.5" de la punta del triángulo.Cose sobre la línea dibujada y corta el exceso de tela. Repite en la otra orilla de la bolsa y haz lo mismo con el forro. Voltea la bolsa con la tela al derecho por fuera, pero deja el forro con el revès de la tela por fuera.

4. Sew the Exterior and Lining

Place the exterior front and back pieces with right sides together. Pin and sew the exterior along the sides and bottom, backstitching on both ends, Sew the lining in the same way, leaving a 4”opening at bottom for turning.

To shape a flat bottom for the bag, at one corner match bottom seam line to side seam line, creating a flattened triangle. Measure and mark on seam allowance 2 1⁄2" from point of triangle. Draw a line across triangle, and sew on drawn line. Trim excess fabric. Repeat at remaining bottom corner to make bag body. Turn bag body right side out. Repeat with the lining but leave wrong side out.

Inserta la bolsa dentro del forro, el derecho de la bolsa estará cara a cara con el derecho del forro y las correas deben estar entre la bolsa y el forro. Cose por todo el borde superior de la bolsa y el forro juntos.

Insert bag body inside bag lining with right sides together; the straps should be between bag and lining. Stitch together upper edges of bag body and lining.

Voltea la bolsa al derecho a través de la apertura en el forro y después cose para cerrarla. Plancha la bolsa y haz un pespunte por toda la orilla superior de la bolsa, pasando por encima de las correas.

Turn bag and lining right side out through lining opening and and sew it closed. Press and topstitch all around that top edge of the bag, sewing on the straps too.

...y haz terminado! ya puedes disfrutar tu nueva bolsa para el mercado!

last week

La semana pasada me hice una blusa. El fin de semana fui con mi mamá a mi tienda de telas favorita en la ciudad y compré unos cuantos metros de voile. La blusa la comencé una tarde pero hice una pausa y la terminé la siguiente noche. Me encantó el diseño tan sencillo como una tshirt, sobra decir que fue facilísimo de hacer. El patrón es Scout Woven Tee de Grainline. ... y quiero hacer más!

Last week I made ​​a blouse for myself. The weekend I went with my mom to my favorite fabric store in town and I bought a few meters of cotton voile. The next afternoon I started to make the blouse but I did a pause and I finished the next night. I love how looks the design as a simple Tshirt, needless to say it was very easy to sew. The pattern is the Scout Woven Tee from Grainline.... and I want to make more!

Lately

Este mes he tenido flores en casa y en el jardín, hice mi primer vestido Tova y hace un par de días terminé una bolsa del mercado para regalar a una de mis tías... 

Sabina ya tiene 7 meses y dos dientes le comienzan a salir... es un deleite ver cómo ha crecido y cómo va cambiando... me encantan cómo sus pequeñas manitas siguen tocando mi rostro y mi pecho cuando le doy de comer y adoro sus enormes ojos que me sigue siempre que estamos juntas...

This month I had flowers at home and in the garden, I made my first  Tova dress and a couple of days ago I finished a market bag to give to one of my aunts ...
Sabina has seven months and two teeths starting to come ... is a delight to see how she has grown and how she is changing ... I love how their little hands are touching my face and my breast when I feed her and I love her huge eyes following me when we're together...

Blusa/Blouse: 260 Ella Blouse

Pantalón/ Pants: 238 Christine Pants

Hice otra blusa para Sabina pero esta vez decidí complementarla con un pantalón. Fue mi primera vez haciendo un pantalón y aunque tuve algunos errores, al final no se notan porque lleva elástico en la cintura. La blusa es talla 12 meses que a una nena de 6 le queda bien como vestido corto y conforme vaya creciendo le quedará como blusa. La hice con una tela estampada que tenía guardada, tiene unas flores pequeñitas que en cuanto la vi me pareció perfecta y le hice una sencilla aplicación con hexágonos, que creo que le da un toque divertido.

I made another blouse to Sabina but this time I decided to supplement with pants. It was my first time doing pants and although I made some mistakes at the end they aren't very noticeable because the elastic at the waist. The blouse is size 12 months and for a six months baby it looks good as a short dress and as she grows it will look like a  blouse. I made it with a fabric that I had in my stash, it has those lovely tiny flowers and when I saw it I thought it would be perfect for this. This time I made a simple application with hexagons, which I think it gives a fun twist.

Floral zigzag

Este es el primer quilt que termino en 2012. Este año mi productividad no está en sus mejores números, pero me pone contenta al menos ya tener concluído este, pues desde hace tiempo tenía ganas de usar esas lindas telas.... This is the my first quilt finished in 2012. I know my productivity hasn't great numbers this year, but I'm happy at least have done this one, and finally I could use these beautiful fabrics....

Para hacerlo me guié con el patrón "Patchwork Chevron Quilt" de Jeni y puedes encontrar el tutorial gratis aquí. Realmente fue divertido hacerlo!  I used Jenni's pattern "Patchwork Quilt Chevron" and you can find the free tutorial here. It was a very fun proyect to do!

Para la parte de atrás usé diferentes telas haciendo un log cabin enorme.... For the back I used diferent fabrics to make a big Log Cabin...

y ahora vuelvo a la máquina de coser...!

Pretty Patchwork Coasters.... a tutorial!

Me encanta hacer regalos hechos a mano tanto como me gusta el patchwork... así que después de estar jugando un poco con mi cortador de telas Baby GO! terminé estos bonitos portavasos de patchwork que me parece que podrían ser un lindo regalo una nueva vecina o para la anfitriona de alguna fiesta o para cualquier persona que aprecie los regalos hechos en casa...   I love make handmade gifts as I love patchwork so much... so after playing with my fabric cutter baby GO! I finished those pretty patchwork coasters that I think they could be a lovely gift for a new neighbor, a party host or any person who apreciate handmade presents.

así que por fin, un pequeño tutorial para tí...

so finally I have a little tutorial for you...

Patchwork coasters

Necesitas:

Cortador de tela AccuQuilt GO! o GO! Baby 

6×12" cutting mat

AccuQuilt GO! Equilateral Triangles Die

AccuQuilt GO! Hexagons Die–2", 3", 5"

Retazos de guata de al menos 5 1/2” para cada hexágono.

Retazos de tela al menos de 4” x 5” para cada par de triángulos y de 5 ½” para cada hexágono. 

Hilo de color que combine.

* Para cada portavasos necesitas 6 triángulos, 1 hexágono de tela y 1 hexágono de guata.

You need:

AccuQuilt GO! or GO! Baby fabric cutter

AccuQuilt GO! Equilateral Triangles Die

AccuQuilt GO! Hexagons Die–2", 3", 5"

6×12" cutting mat

Fabric Scraps each at least 4” x 5” for every couple or triangles and 5 1/2” for each hexagon.

Batting scraps at least 5 1/2” for each hexagon.

Coordinating thread..

*for every coaster you'll need 6 triangles, 1 fabric hexagon and 1 batting hexagon.

Usando el AccuQuilt GO! o GO! Baby y los respectivos patrones de corte, cortar 6  triángulos grandes y un hexágono grande de tela y un hexágono grande de guata.... fue verdaderamente rápido y fácil verdad?  ahora organiza los triángulos para formar un hexágono, alternando tus telas.

Using your AccuQuilt GO! or GO! Baby fabric cutter, cut  6 large triangles and one large hexagon from your fabric scraps and one large hexagon from batting... that was really fast and easy righ?? now arrange the triangles to form a hexagon, alternating fabrics.

Cose los triángulos para hacer dos medios hexágonos: primero se unen dos triángulos, planchar abriendo la costura, cose el tercer triángulo y vuelve a abrir la costura. Ahora cose tus dos medios hexágonos y plánchalo abriendo la costura. Tu hexágono de triángulos debe tener el mismo tamaño que el hexágono que se usará para la parte de atrás.

Sew the triangles together to make 2 half-hexagons, using 3 triangles each: sew the first 2 triangles, open the seam allowances and sew the third triangle and open the seam. Put the half-hexagons right sides together and sew together on the longest edge. Press the seam open. You must have a pieced hexagon with the same size to the fabric hexagon.

Para armar el portavasos, pon una capa de guata y encima la parte superior del portavasos (con lado derecho arriba) y encima el hexágono de trasero (con el lado derecho hacia abajo). Asegúrate que todas las orillas estén alineadas y fíjalo con un alfiler.

 Utilizando las costuras de los triángulos como guías para girar en cada esquina, cose alrrededor dejando una pequeña apertura para dar vuelta.

Corta el exceso de tela de las esquinas y voltea la tela de adentro hacia afuera, empujando con cuidado las esquinas. Dobla los bordes de la apertura hacia adentro y plancha.

Repite para hacer todos los posavasos.

Acolcha tus portavasos como desees. Yo los acolché utilizando una primera costura a 1/8" del borde y luego hice una segunda línea de 1/2"  del borde.

….ahora coloca tu portavasos debajo de tu bebida favorita y disfruta!

Layer a batting hex, the pieced top (right side up) and the back hexagon (right side down). Line up all the edges and pin the layers together.

Using the triangle seams as guides for where to pivot at corners, sew all around leaving a small openning for turning.

Clip the corners and then turn the fabric inside out. Carefully push out the corners.

Fold the open edges to the inside and press.

Repeat to make every coasters.

Quilt the coasters as you want (I quilted my coasters begin with a 1/8 " from the edge and then I did a second line 1/2" from the edge).

…now place your coaster under your favorite drink and enjoy!

Rebekah tuvo la magnífica idea de hacer un reto en el que la idea básica es que cada quien use esos libros de manualidades que a veces compramos y nunca utilizamos y hacer algo de los proyectos que ahí se muestran... simple. Decidí unirme, ya veremos cómo me va.

Rebekah had the great idea of making a challenge in which the basic idea is that everyone use those craft books that sometimes we bought and never used and do some projects that are shown in there ... simple. I decided to join, we'll see how I go.

Simplemente me encantó. Estoy pensando en hacer otro quilt con el mismo diseño, pero esta vez para mí. I just loved it. I'm thinking about doing another quilt with the same design, but this time for me.

El patrón que usé es de Carolina Patchworks y lo compré aquí. Es un patrón muy fácil de seguir y de terminar. Realmente me encantó el resultado. The pattern I used is from Carolina Patchworks and I bought it here. Is an very easy pattern to follow and finish it. I really love the result.
