Happy Campers quilt

Hace unos días estaba pensando que el año pasado fue muy poco productivo para mi en lo que respecta a quilts terminados... hice algunos baby quilts y sobretodo miniquilts, pero algo un poco más grande no... o eso pensaba, hasta que recordé este. 

Lo terminé a principios de diciembre (creo) y me encantaron esas telas, con colores super básicos y una onda muy retro. Mide 55" x 55". Fue la primera vez que usé tela polar para la parte de atrás y no le puse guata. Lo quería ligero, pero que a la vez fuera calientito para los días más frescos.

A few days ago I was thinking that last year wasn't very productive for me in regard to finished quilts ... I made some baby quilts and miniquilts, but nothing bigger... until I remembered this quilt. 

I finished it in early December (I think) and I loved these fabrics with super-basic colors and a very retro vibe. It measures 55 "x 55". 

It was the first time I used fleece for the back and didn't use batting. I wanted a lightweight quilt but warm enought for cooler days. 

Decidí ponerlo en mi tienda y bueno, ya fue vendido...y me encanta la idea de que alguien lo tendrá y se acurrucará con èl por muchos años

I decided to put it in my shop and well, it is sold already... and I love the idea that someone will have it and cuddle up with it for many years

Two baby quilts

Terminé dos baby quilts que son perfectos para una nena... usé telas en rosa, amarillo, verde, coral y turqueza que resaltan perfecto sobre el fondo blanco... ambos los acolché con líneas rectas y usé tela en color rosa sólido para la parte de atrás y bies en color amarillo...

I finished two baby quilts that are perfect for a baby girl ... I used fabrics in pink, yellow, green, coral and turquoise that perfectly highlight on the white background ... both are   quilted with straight lines and had solid pink fabric for the back and bias in yellow ...

Sabina's first quilt

Terminé este quilt antes de que Sabina naciera... pero quería tenerla conmigo para mostrárselos, porque un baby quilt es mucho más lindo si hay un bebé usándolo!

Before Sabina was born, I finished this quilt for her... but I wanted to have her with me to show them, just because a baby quilt looks so much lovely if there is a baby using it!

y hace unos días terminé otra blusa para ella...

and also I finished another blouse for her... 

Cuando empecé a hacer este quilt ya sabía que estaba esperando una niña, pero yo no estaba muy de ganas de usar telas en color rosa, así que me decidí  por los colores básicos con un fondo en color crema. Para hacer los bloques (que es el tradicional hourglass o reloj de arena), seguí este sencillo tutorial, con cuadros de 7". La parte de atrás la hice con retazos de las telas que usé al frente y me encantó tanto como el frente.

When I started making this quilt I knew I was expecting a girl, but I wasn't in the mood to choose pink fabrics, so I decided to use basic colors with a cream background. To make the blocks (which is the traditional hourglass), I followed this great tutorial, but with 7" squares. I made the back with the scraps from the fabrics I used on the front and I really like how it looks.

siempre me ha gustado el simple patchwork de cuadros, y creo que al ser un diseño sencillo y tradicional siempre luce bien...!

from Chase...

la semana pasada el cartero me trajo un paquete y con él me llegó mucho cariño y un montón de cosas hermosas que hizo mi querida amiga Chase... algunas para mí y otras para el bebé que viene en camino... aquí les comparto lo que recibí...

last week the postman brought me a package... it was full of love and beautiful things made ​​by my dear friend Chase... some of them are for myself and others are for the baby that is coming... let me show you...

...lo primero que vi fue un hermoso baby quilt! qué sorpresa más linda! me encantan las telas que usó y el fondo azul... ella hizo un maravilloso trabajo con el acolchado y me encanta el detalle del bies... ...the first think I saw was a gorgeous baby quilt! such wonderful surprise! love the fabrics she used and the blue background... she made a wonderful job with the quilting and I really like the scrappy detail in the bies...

 y venía acompañado de un lindísimo y moderno babero...!

and there was a pretty and modern baby bib too...!

así como dos lindísimos mini quilts, que serán los compañeros del te o café de la tarde... me encanta el trabajo del patchwork y sobretodo el acholchado a mano...

i found two lovely mini quilts that will be the perfect companion for my tea or coffee... love the simple patchwork and especially the hand quilting...

y además ella me envió estas lindas telas...!

and also she sended me those pretty fabrics...!

Floral zigzag

Este es el primer quilt que termino en 2012. Este año mi productividad no está en sus mejores números, pero me pone contenta al menos ya tener concluído este, pues desde hace tiempo tenía ganas de usar esas lindas telas.... This is the my first quilt finished in 2012. I know my productivity hasn't great numbers this year, but I'm happy at least have done this one, and finally I could use these beautiful fabrics....

Para hacerlo me guié con el patrón "Patchwork Chevron Quilt" de Jeni y puedes encontrar el tutorial gratis aquí. Realmente fue divertido hacerlo!  I used Jenni's pattern "Patchwork Quilt Chevron" and you can find the free tutorial here. It was a very fun proyect to do!

Para la parte de atrás usé diferentes telas haciendo un log cabin enorme.... For the back I used diferent fabrics to make a big Log Cabin...

y ahora vuelvo a la máquina de coser...!

and now I'm back to the sewing machine!

worth the wait

Terminé este quilt hace un par de semanas. Creo que comencé a coser los bloques desde hace dos años y todo este tiempo estuvo esperando por mí o por la personita para la que finalmente será, ya que fue el regalo que le di a una amiga en su baby shower... esta vez usé algunas tiras precortadas de 1.5 " y tela en dolor sólido de lino/algodón.

Aunque me pone contenta terminar un proyecto, también me alegra haber esperado para hacerlo, pues terminó siendo un lindo quilt para una bebé, algo que no estaba en el plan original...

I finished this quilt a couple of weeks ago. I think I started to sew the blocks two years ago and all this time it was waiting for me or for the little one that it will be, as it was the gift I gave to a friend at her baby shower ... this time I used 1.5" precut strips and linen/cotton fabric (solids). 

I'm happy to finish a proyect but at the end I'm glad I waited to do it too, because it turned in a lovely quilt for a baby girl, and that wasn't in the original plan...

y parece que a Lucio también le gusta cómo luce... :)

Les muestro un mini quilt o tapete para la taza que terminé hace unos días. Lo hice usando algunos de mis tejidos a rayas favoritos y una suave  mezclilla... es un pequeño regalo para una querida amiga, espero que le guste... This is a mini quilt or mug rug that I finished just few days ago. I made it using some of my favorite stripe wovens and a soft denim... its a little gift for a lovely friend, hope she likes it...

y hablando de regalos... mil gracias por todos los comentarios en el post del sorteo!! Realmente disfruté leer lo que les gusta regalar en las fiestas y me encantó que también les gusta regalar cosas hechas a mano o vintage. Les cuento que desde hace unos años Alex y yo no damos regalos de navidad, simplemente decidimos no dejarnos llevar por el hábito compulsivo del consumo, pero hacia fin de año sí me gusta dar un pequeño detalle a algunas personas que estuvieron cerca de nosotros durante todo el año y lo que regalo me gusta hacerlo yo misma o comprar algo artesanal... así que gracias por las nuevas ideas, las tendré en cuenta! and talking about gifts.... thanks a lot for all your comments on the giveaway's post!! I really enjoyed read what you like to make as a gift on holidays and I love the idea that you also like give handmade or vintage presents too. A few years ago Alex and I decided not give christmas presents anymore, just because we dont want get carried away by the compulsive habit of consumption, but by the end of each year I like to give a small detail to some people who were close to us throughout the year and I like make the gifts or buy something handmade... so thanks for the new ideas, I'll have in mind!

terminé otro mini quilt... tiene cuatro pequeños bloques de log cabin, esta vez con colores frescos y diseños modernos... mide aproximadamente 10.75".   

I finished another mini quilt... four small log cabin blocks, this time using fresh colors and modern prints... it measures aprox. 10.75" square.

qué tal va tu sábado? esta vez me levanté un poco más tarde de lo normal y después de mi amado café creo que ya estoy lista para seguir mi día... tienes planes? yo no, aquí todo luce tranquilo y con un clima de otoño perfecto, así que lo que sea que venga, yo estoy bien con ello!

how is going your Saturday?  I woke up a little later than usual today but  after my very loved coffee I think I'm ready to catch my day ... have you plans?  I'm not, but everything looks peaceful here with a perfect fall weather, so whatever is comming I'm fine with it!

another finished quilt

Creo que éste es el quilt que más rápido he podido terminar en lo que va de este año, pues lo comencé hace poco más de un mes. Tiene un diseño super simple que me encanta y que creo que es lo que le da una apariencia moderna. El patrón lo consigues gratis aquí.

 I started with it just over a month so I think this is the quilt that I finished faster so far in this year. It has a super simple design that I love and which I think is what gives a modern look. You can get the pattern for free here.

Originalmente para el fondo pensé usar un color de tela más claro, algo como color hueso, pero no me convencía del todo, así que buscando más colores estuve a punto de elegir un azul marino, pero me pareció demasiado obscuro... hasta que me saqué del armario esa hermosa tela café... fue la mejor elección que pude haber hecho pues me encanta cómo combina con los otros colores... las lineas rectas de acolchado las hice de .5 a .75 de pulgada de distancia y usé hilos de cuatro colores diferentes.
Originally I planned to use a lighter color of fabric for the background, like a bone color, but there was something that I wasn't convinced, so looking for more colors I thought a navy blue could be fine, but after see it with the other colors it seemed too dark ... until I pulled out of the closet this beautiful brown fabric... it was the best choise and love how looks the colors with it ... the straight quilting lines was about .5 - .75 inch apart and  I used  four different colors of thread.

Para la parte de atrás usé una sábana que compré el año pasado en las rebajas de Zara Home y tiene un color dorado que le queda de maravilla... la medida del quilt es 77" x 90" ya lavado. For the backing I used a gorgeous sheet that I bought last year on sale at Zara Home with a gold color that combine so great... the quilt size is 77" x 90" after washing.

  

y aunque no es el tamaño perfecto para mi cama  una king size, lo cierto es que me pone feliz tener un quilt nuevo en la recámara! and although is not the perfect size for my king size bed, the truth is it makes me happy have a new quilt in my bedroom!

keep it simple

Estuve jugando nuevamente con estos coloridos tejidos y un poco de lino. El resultado lo pueden llamar mini quilts, tapetes para la taza o portavasos gigantes, creo que el nombre no importa realmenteme. Disfruto mucho mientras hago estas pequeñas cosas y me gusta mucho cómo luce el acolchado sobre el contraste de colores. I've been playing with these colorful fabrics and some blue linen again. You can called them mini quilts, mug rugs or giant coasters, the name doesn't matter. I enjoy so much making these little things and I really like how looks those stiches on the contrasting colors.

El azul con mostaza estará bajo mi taza de café durante mis tardes de costura... El de colores decidí ponerlo en mi tienda para que alguien más disfrute de un poco de color.
The blue and mustard will be under my cup of coffee during my sewing afternoon... I decided to put it in my shop the colorful one and let to somebody else can enjoy a little bit  of color.

ya casi es fin de semana y eso es suficiente para tener buen humor, aunque no se tenga planes aún...! it's almost weekend and that is enough to be in the very good mood, even if you haven't plans for those days yet...!

Purple Love

hola...! feliz lunes! 

pues bueno, por fin les muestro mi quilt morado. En la semana pasada terminé de coserle el bies, que para ser sincera inicialmente pensé en pegarlo todo a máquina, pero afortunadamente no lo hice y aunque claro que toma un poco más de tiempo coserlo a mano, lo cierto es que luce mejor y vale la pena el trabajo.

well, finally I can show you my purple quilt. Last week I finished to sew the bias, which to be honest I thought to sewing it all by machine, but fortunately I didn't and though of course it takes a little longer to sew by hand, the fact is that it looks better and  worth the work.

para hacerlo utilicé 3 jelly rolls de la colección Love de Amy Butler y la tela morada es un algodón satinado, con el tejido super cerrado que me hizo usar una aguja más delgada de lo normal. El patrón se llama Daisy Chain y es del libro Jelly Roll Quilts. El acolchado lo hice con hilo morado también y siguiendo los cuadros del patrón. El tamaño final es de 81" x 62.5". 

I used 3 jelly rolls of the Amy Butler's Love collection and the purple fabric is a beautiful cotton satin, that is a very closed woven, so I had to use a needle thinner than normal. The pattern is called Daisy Chain from the book Jelly Roll Quilts. I made the quilting with purple thread and just  following the squares in the pattern. The final size is 81 "x 62.5".  

Será un regalo para mi madre, que esta semana cumplirá 60 y ella en algunas ocasiones me ha dicho que los quilts que más le gustan son los que tienen telas de diferentes estampados y que están compuestos por parches pequeños... así que espero que éste le  guste...  ....y se siente bien terminar otro quilt!

It will be a gift for my mother, who turns 60 this week and she has told me that she likes quilts with many different prints and small pieces... so I hope she likes it...    ...and feels so good finish another quilt!

Happy Monday! I hope you guys had a fabulous weekend!

Tuve un buen fin de semana, cosí un montón, disfruté de un delicioso asado que mi hombre me preparó en la terraza, estuve leyendo y todo el domingo la pasé viendo películas de Harry Potter! Fueron dos hermosos días en que el cielo tenía un azul intenso y muchas nubes blancas.. no hubo calor, así que fue perfecto!

I had a great weekend here, sewing a lot, I enjoyed a delicious dinner at the grill that my guy did for me, reading, and watching Harry Potter movies all sunday! There was two beautiful days here, with a intense blue sky and many white clouds... not hot, just perfect!

... en fin, también quería mostrarles el último quilt que he terminado... es en lo que he estado trabajando recientemente, sólo no tengo fotos del proceso, pues comencé a hacerlo una noche y ya sabes, tuve esos momentos en que todo sale bien y estás tan contenta que no quieres parar de trabajar, así que me olvidé por completo de la cámara... anyhoo I want to show you my very last finished mini quilt... this is what I have been working on lately, but I didn't take any process photos, because it was a night work, you know, with that kind of moments when you are working so happy that you don't want to stop to sew... so I just forgot to use the camera...

todo el trabajo fue improvisado y en el proceso fui corrigiendo el tamaño de las letras para que lucieran uniformes y aunque los colores rosados no son mis elecciones habituales, estoy  contenta con el resultado...! It just was an improv work and all the time I was trimming the blocks to make the letters look uniform and although pink colors are not my usual choices, I'm happy with the result...!

playing wovens...

hola!! cómo va la semana? yo he tenido un montón de trabajo, pero afortunadamente mi periodo de vacaciones comenzará pronto, así que pensar en tener algunos días en la playita me pone de buenas :)

Hi!! how is going your week? I've had a lot of work at my job, but luckily my summer vacation will begin soon, so thinking about have days at the beach makes me happy :)

y en casa he podido avanzar con mi quilt morado y algunos pendientes más... hace días estuve jugando con esos tejidos hermosos e hice algunos sashets para regalo y unos mini quilts que puse en mi tienda... y hablando de mi tienda, hace unos días abrí una sección de descuentos, en donde tengo bolsas para el mercado, cojines y más... en caso de que quisieras visitarla ;)

at home I've been working with my purple quilt and some small proyects too... on past days I was playing with these beautiful cotton wovens and linen too,  and I made some lavender sashets for gifts and mini quilts that I put in my shop... and talking about my shop, I opened a sale section, where I have reusable grocery bags, pillows and more... just in case you want to check it out ;)

Monday again and what I've been doing here..

Hola!!  Hi!!

cómo estuvo el fin de semana? ojalá que hayan sido unos días de relax para todos y que lo hayan disfrutado mucho... nosotros la pasamos bien, tuvimos una comida en el campo con amigos y también pasamos tiempo en casa disfrutando de las lluvias y el clima fresco... cómo me encantan los días con lluvia... después de que pasa todo luce tan limpio y fresco... como recién lavado!

How was your weekend? hope you had relaxing days and you enjoyed them very much... We had very nice days here, we enjoyed a meal at the country with friends and also we were at home enjoying the rain and the fresh weather... how I love days after rain... everything looks so clean... like fresh washed!

En mi estudio he estado trabajando en pequeños proyectos, algunos cojines para mi casa, bolsos y miniquits, que están ya en la tienda... y sigo teniendo pendientes por terminar, un quilt morado que necesito avanzar y muchos más proyectos construyéndose en mi cabeza y un montón de telas que muero por empezar a usar... también tengo ganas de hacerme un vestido de verano o una blusa, algo sencillo pues serán mis primeros intentos de hacer ropa... espero que esta semana tenga un poco más de tiempo para avanzar...!

 I have been working on small projects at my studio: some pillows for my home, bags and miniquits which are already in the shop... and I still having unfinished things, the purple quilt and many more projects in my mind and a lot of fabrics that I can't wait to start to using ... also I want to make a summer dress or a blouse for myself, something simple as they will be my first attempts to making clothes ... I hope this week has a little more time to work on them...!

Hola!! se suponía que este sería un post de lunes, pero ayer las cosas se pusieron un poco complicadas en mi trabajo y no tuve mucha oportunidad de sentarme con calma a escribir... espero que todos hayan tenido un buen fin de semana! aquí el calor cada día aumenta más y aunque disfruto usar sandalias, la cerveza helada y ver flores por todos lados, también me hace añorar días de lluvia... Hello! it supossed it would be a Monday post, but things got a bit complicated in my work yesterday and I didn't have much time to sit calmly to write... I hope everyone had a good weekend! here the heat every day grows more and although I enjoy wearing sandals, drink cold beer and see flowers everywhere, it also makes me want rainy days ...

Hace unos días comencé un nuevo proyecto de quilt en el que estoy usando unos jelly rolls que compré hace tiempo y combinándolos con tela color morado... los colores me encantan pero me hacen sentir un poco fuera de mi zona de confort... desde hace tiempo quería hacer algo con esas telas, pero no encontraba el proyecto ideal y siempre tengo temor de echar a perder las telas... así que ya veremos qué sale, pero por lo pronto me pone de buenas trabajar con colores diferentes a los que habitualmente uso en mis quilts... A few days ago I started a new quilt project that I'm using jelly rolls that I bought some time ago and with a combination with purple fabric... I must to say that I love the colors but at the same I feel a little out of my comfort zone... and so many time ago I wanted to do something with them, but I couldn't find the perfect project and I'm always afraid of wasting fabric... so we'll see what comes out, but meanwhile, work with differents colors from those that I commonly used in quilts, is putting me in a very good mood...

quilt for a pretty girl

Por fin terminé el quilt que comencé hacer a principios de marzo para regalarlo a mi hermana en su cumpleaños que fue a mediados de abril... lo entregué un poco tarde, pero dada mi productividad en los últimos meses creo que no estuvo tan mal después de todo...

Finally I finished the quilt that I started to work with it at begining of last March to give as a birthday present to my sister... I gave it to her a little bit late, but since I'm not been so much productive lately I think it wasn't to bad after all...

Las telas que usé las compré hace un par de años y desde que las ví pensé que serían perfectas para hacerle un quilt a Verónica y después de ver la sonrisa en su cara cuando lo vio, sé que no me equivoqué... The fabrics that I used I bought them a couple of years ago and since I saw them I thougt they would be perfect to make a quilt for Verónica and after seeing the smile on her face when she saw it, I knew I was right...

y por si les interesa, esto es lo que utilicé:

15 fat quarters

1/2 yarda de tela para el sashing

cada fat quarter se cortan en 6 tiras de 3.5", por lo que tendrás 90 tiras de 3.5".

Después las separas 2 grupos de 60 tiras cada uno:

1) 3.5" x 17.5"

2) 3.5" x 8.5"

Para el sashing necesitas 4 tiras de 3.5" que se unirán para tener 2 tiras.

Se unen en segmentos de 20 tiras y con el sashing se delimitaron los tres segmentos de las tiras de 8.5"... unes todo, hilvanas, se hace acolchado y pones bies... y sin desperdiciar tela (porque no te quedará nada de los fat quarters), obtienes un buen quilt para la siesta, de aproximadamente 60 x 79...

and if you're interested, here's what I used:

15 fat quarters

1/2 yard of fabric for sashing

Each fat quarter cut into six strips of 3.5 ", so you'll have 90 strips of 3.5". After that you separate the two groups of 60 strips each:

1) 3.5 "x 17.5"

2) 3.5 "x 8.5"

For the sashing you need 4 strips of 3.5" to sew at the end and have 2 long strips.

The strips are sewn into segments of 20 and with the sashing strips are delineated the three segments of the 8.5" strips... so after be piecing, basting, quilting and binding, without wasting fabric (you'll not have left overs from the fat quartes), you'll get a good nap quilt about 60" x 79.
