patchwork pillow

Hace más de un mes que hice esta funda de cojín de patchwork y había olvidado mostrárselos. Es uno de esos pequeños proyectos que se disfrutan de principio a fin. La parte de patchwork es en realidad un bolsillo para guardar un libro. La idea la tomé del libro Growing Up Modern y fue un regalo de cumpleaños para el adorado hijo de mi querida amiga Kenza.

More than one month ago I made this patchwork cushion cover and had forgotten show it to you. It's one of those little projects that can be enjoyed from start to finish. The patckwork side is actually a pocket to keep a book. I took the idea from the book "Growing Up Modern" and it was a birthday gift for the lovely son of my dear friend Kenza.

Ahora quiero hacer uno para Sabina.

Now I want to make one for Sabina.

pink inspiration

Fue divertido mezclar nn montón de telas color rosa y algunas en amarillo, especialmente porque el rosa no es una de mis primeras elecciones cuando se trata de telas, pero quería hacer algo con mucho color, que fuera brillante y "girly", y así fue como un miniquilt inspirado en limonada de fresa vino a mi mente.

It was very fun to mix a lot of pink and some yellow fabrics, especially because pink is not one of my first choices when it comes to fabrics, but I wanted to make something with lots of color, bright and "girly", and it was as a miniquilt inspired strawberry lemonade came in to my mind.

Definitivamente los miniquilts son una de mis cosas favoritas de hacer: se hacen rápido, puedes usar muchas telas sin necesidad de gastar mucho y los puedes usar a diario como un tapete para tu taza de café o simplemente admirarlos si los cuelgas en una pared.

Miniquilts are definitely one of my favorite things to make: they finished faster, you can use many fabrics without spending so much and they can be used daily as a mat for your cup of coffee or just to admire them if you hang on a wall.

scrappy patchwork

Es uno de los pequeños proyectos que he podido terminar recientemente. Es un cojín que hice para Sabina y la idea es que tuviera ese aspecto de patckwork tan lindo y que me gusta tanto, así que para lograrlo además de tener un montón de retazos, creo que una de las cosas que ayuda a conseguirlo es no combinar las telas que se van usando. Lo que hice fue cortar las tiras en diferentes anchos, sin importar si estuvieran derechas y las revolví, y parar coserlas las fui eligiendo al azar, sin importarme si combinaban porque al final, creo que así luce mejor. Para la parte de atrás usé una tela a cuadros pequeñitos en color rojo y blanco.

It's one of the little projects I've been recently finished. It is a pillow cover I made for Sabina and the idea is to get the cute patchwork style that I like a lot, so to make it, just need have many fabric scraps and try to not combining  the fabrics to be used. What I did was cut the strips in different widths, regardless if they were straight and sew them randomly choosing the fabrics, no matter if aren't combined because at the end, I think it make it looks better. For the back I used a tiny checkered fabric in red and white.

ha pasado tanto tiempo que realmente no recuerdo cuándo comencé a hacer este quilt. Escogí las telas, las corté y cosí los triángulos en pocos días, pero después de planchar las costuras, estuvieron apilados en uno de mis armarios durante muchos meses...  hasta semana que decidí sacarlos y comenzar a dar forma a un nuevo quilt...

No se si el fin de semana me alcance para poder terminar aunque sea el top, pero verlos en mi pared definitivamente me motiva a intentarlo!

has been so long that I really ca'nt remember when I started making this quilt. I chose fabrics, cut and sewed the triangles in just a few days, but after ironing the seams, they were stacked in one of my cabinets for many months ... until this week that I decided to take them and put them in the way to be a quilt...

I dont know if the weekend will be enough to finish the top, but seeing them on my wall definitely motivates me to try it!

la semana pasada el cartero me trajo un paquete y con él me llegó mucho cariño y un montón de cosas hermosas que hizo mi querida amiga Chase... algunas para mí y otras para el bebé que viene en camino... aquí les comparto lo que recibí...

...lo primero que vi fue un hermoso baby quilt! qué sorpresa más linda! me encantan las telas que usó y el fondo azul... ella hizo un maravilloso trabajo con el acolchado y me encanta el detalle del bies... ...the first think I saw was a gorgeous baby quilt! such wonderful surprise! love the fabrics she used and the blue background... she made a wonderful job with the quilting and I really like the scrappy detail in the bies...

 y venía acompañado de un lindísimo y moderno babero...!

así como dos lindísimos mini quilts, que serán los compañeros del te o café de la tarde... me encanta el trabajo del patchwork y sobretodo el acholchado a mano...

i found two lovely mini quilts that will be the perfect companion for my tea or coffee... love the simple patchwork and especially the hand quilting...

Orange LOVE

otro mini quilt que me encargaron y que terminé hace unos días... me gusta cómo luce el anaranjado sobre el café y para el acolchado usé un hilo matizado que creo que le va bien... this is another custom order mini quilt that i made few days ago... I love how looks the orange with the brown background and for the quilting I used a blended thread...

Floral zigzag

Este es el primer quilt que termino en 2012. Este año mi productividad no está en sus mejores números, pero me pone contenta al menos ya tener concluído este, pues desde hace tiempo tenía ganas de usar esas lindas telas.... This is the my first quilt finished in 2012. I know my productivity hasn't great numbers this year, but I'm happy at least have done this one, and finally I could use these beautiful fabrics....

Para hacerlo me guié con el patrón "Patchwork Chevron Quilt" de Jeni y puedes encontrar el tutorial gratis aquí. Realmente fue divertido hacerlo!  I used Jenni's pattern "Patchwork Quilt Chevron" and you can find the free tutorial here. It was a very fun proyect to do!

Para la parte de atrás usé diferentes telas haciendo un log cabin enorme.... For the back I used diferent fabrics to make a big Log Cabin...

y ahora vuelvo a la máquina de coser...!

and now I'm back to the sewing machine!

finally friday!

es viernes y no terminé nada de lo que tenía planeado hacer para esta semana, pero recordé que no les había mostrado algo que hice el año pasado... It's Friday already and I didn't finish anything of what I had planned to do this week, but I remembered i have something I made last year but I didn't show you yet.

Es un mini quilt que hice para mi querida amiga Chase. Cuando elegí las telas en colores sólidos tuve dudas en si a ella le gustaría, pues no recuerdo haber visto nada que ella hiciera usando sólidos, pero decidí arriesgarme, pues creo que es lindo cuando recibes algo que es totalmente diferente a lo que uno mismo hace. Fue una combinación moderna de grises, azules y verde... y a ella le gustó!

It's a mini quilt I made for my dear friend Chase. When I chose the fabrics in solid colors I had doubts if she would like them, I don't remember seeing anything that she made using just solid fabrics, but I decided take the risk, because I think it's great when you get something that is totally different from what you usually does . It was a modern combination of gray, blue and green ... and she liked it!

on the road again...

Pasaron dos semanas y apenas toqué mi máquina de coser. Hacía mucho que no sucedía eso y creo que en esos momentos sólo no hay que presionarse en trabajar, pues aunque tuve días pesados en la oficina también tuve algunos momentos libres en que pude haberme puesto a coser y no lo hice, pero finalmente este fin de semana volvimos a la costureada. Aunque tengo ya un quilt en proceso, decidí empezar otro, pero esta vez usando telas femeninas y con muchas flores, perfectas para la primavera... Two weeks passed and I barely touched my sewing machine, but finally I returned to the sewing area this weekend. Although I have a quilt in progress, I decided to start another one, but this time using feminine fabrics with many flowers, just perfect for spring...

Es algo sencillo, así que espero esta semana tener el tiempo suficiente para terminarlo... It is really simply so I hope to have enough free time to finish it this week...

terminé este mini quilt hace unas semanas, fue un encargo que me hicieron, y recuerdo que lo primero que pregunté antes de comenzar a hacerlo, era qué tan rápido ella lo necesitaría, pues pensé que tal vez sería un regalo para en día de San Valentín...I finished this mini quilt a few weeks ago, it was a commission, I remember the first thing I asked was how quickly she would need it, because I thought it might be a gift for Valentine's Day...

sin embargo Michelle me dijo que no había prisa, así que creo que sólo se trató de un regalo para ella o para alguien a quien ella ama... Michelle told me that there wasn't hurry, so I think it was just a gift for herself or to someone she loves.... 

Alex y yo nunca hemos festejado San Valentín, simplemente no creemos en tener una fecha especial para hacernos un regalo o decirnos te amo, sino que cada día es un buen día para hacerlo...  Alex and I never celebrate Valentine's day, just we think there is no reason to have a special day to give a gift or say I love you to your loved one, every day is a good day to do it....

así que les deseo que tengan un día lleno de amor, de besos y lindas sorpresas, pero no sólo hoy sino también mañana y todos los que sigan! so I wish you a day plenty of love, kisses and lovely surprises, but not just for today but also for tomorrow and each one that follows!

Crece pequeño, crece! Grow little one, grow!

Inspirada en mis deseos de que empiece la temporada de siembra de este año, hice este mini quilt que apenas terminé la semana pasada. Usé telas modernas en tonos verde y una chidísima tela café para el fondo (Moda Grunge de Basic grey), que le da un aspecto terroso que le queda perfecto...

 I made this mini quilt inspired by my wishes of the planting season of this year. I used modern fabrics in green and an amazing brown fabric for the background (Moda Grunge by Basic Grey), that I think it gives a perfect earthy look...

Aún tengo otros quilts pendientes que la verdad no he avanzado gran cosa, pues en mi trabajo las cosas han estado pesadas y aunque cuando llego a casa tengo el propósito de ponerme a coser, la mayoría de las veces no siempre lo cumplo... pero tener pequeños proyectos como mini quilts o bolsos son perfectos para realizarlos cuando se cuenta con poco tiempo... I have another unfinished quilts that I haven't really progressed so much, because in my job, things have been very hard lately, and even when I'm back at home I want to sew, I couldnt do it the most of the times...  but have small projects like mini quilts or pouches are perfect when you almost have time off...

Alex y yo estaremos en lo que será nuestro primer bazar de artesanos y artistas locales. Si quieres pasar y decir hola, estaremos este viernes 16 y hasta el domingo 18 en el café Rendez Vous, que se encuentra en el cruce de las calles Libertad y Colonias, en la colonia Americana.... además de bolsos, cojines, mini quilts, también tendré algunas de mis queridas suculendas con cubiertas de patchwork y bonitas telas.... y Alex hizo un montón de cosas super chidas!!

Alex and I will be in what is our first craft bazaar. If you want to go and say hi, we will be this Friday 16 to Sunday 18 at the Rendez Vous Café, which is at the intersection of Libertad and Colonias Streets at the Colonia Americana .... addition to handbags, cushions, mini quilts I will have some of my dear suculendas with a little pretty patchwork cozy and beautiful fabrics .... and Alex made a lot of awersome stuff!

worth the wait

Terminé este quilt hace un par de semanas. Creo que comencé a coser los bloques desde hace dos años y todo este tiempo estuvo esperando por mí o por la personita para la que finalmente será, ya que fue el regalo que le di a una amiga en su baby shower... esta vez usé algunas tiras precortadas de 1.5 " y tela en dolor sólido de lino/algodón.

Aunque me pone contenta terminar un proyecto, también me alegra haber esperado para hacerlo, pues terminó siendo un lindo quilt para una bebé, algo que no estaba en el plan original...

I finished this quilt a couple of weeks ago. I think I started to sew the blocks two years ago and all this time it was waiting for me or for the little one that it will be, as it was the gift I gave to a friend at her baby shower ... this time I used 1.5" precut strips and linen/cotton fabric (solids). 

I'm happy to finish a proyect but at the end I'm glad I waited to do it too, because it turned in a lovely quilt for a baby girl, and that wasn't in the original plan...

y parece que a Lucio también le gusta cómo luce... :)

Patchwork to go

Desde hace tiempo que quería hacer una bolsa con algún detalle de patchwork... y finalmente terminé estas dos bolsas la semana pasada. Usé tejidos de lino y algodón.... y me encanta cómo lucen!  son ligeras y muy prácticas y sobre todo me encanta la idea de llevar una pieza de patchwork a cualquier lugar ... ya están en mi tienda, por si les quieres echar un vistazo....

Since many time ago I wanted to make a bag with some pretty patchwork detail... and finally I finished those two bags last week. I used linen and cotton fabrics.... and love how they look! they are light weight and very practical and specially I love the idea of carry a piece of patchwork anywhere... and they are in my shop already, if you want to take a look....

another finished quilt

Creo que éste es el quilt que más rápido he podido terminar en lo que va de este año, pues lo comencé hace poco más de un mes. Tiene un diseño super simple que me encanta y que creo que es lo que le da una apariencia moderna. El patrón lo consigues gratis aquí.

 I started with it just over a month so I think this is the quilt that I finished faster so far in this year. It has a super simple design that I love and which I think is what gives a modern look. You can get the pattern for free here.

Originalmente para el fondo pensé usar un color de tela más claro, algo como color hueso, pero no me convencía del todo, así que buscando más colores estuve a punto de elegir un azul marino, pero me pareció demasiado obscuro... hasta que me saqué del armario esa hermosa tela café... fue la mejor elección que pude haber hecho pues me encanta cómo combina con los otros colores... las lineas rectas de acolchado las hice de .5 a .75 de pulgada de distancia y usé hilos de cuatro colores diferentes.
Originally I planned to use a lighter color of fabric for the background, like a bone color, but there was something that I wasn't convinced, so looking for more colors I thought a navy blue could be fine, but after see it with the other colors it seemed too dark ... until I pulled out of the closet this beautiful brown fabric... it was the best choise and love how looks the colors with it ... the straight quilting lines was about .5 - .75 inch apart and  I used  four different colors of thread.

Para la parte de atrás usé una sábana que compré el año pasado en las rebajas de Zara Home y tiene un color dorado que le queda de maravilla... la medida del quilt es 77" x 90" ya lavado. For the backing I used a gorgeous sheet that I bought last year on sale at Zara Home with a gold color that combine so great... the quilt size is 77" x 90" after washing.

  

y aunque no es el tamaño perfecto para mi cama  una king size, lo cierto es que me pone feliz tener un quilt nuevo en la recámara! and although is not the perfect size for my king size bed, the truth is it makes me happy have a new quilt in my bedroom!

patchwork presents

Bueno, pues finalmente puedo mostrarles algo que hice hace tiempo... recuerdan este post donde les mostraba unos regalitos? me había reservado estas fotos para no estropearle a mi hermana la sorpresa, pero como ella y mi prima ya los recibieron ahora se les puedo mostrar lo que hice. Well, finally I can show something I made long time ago ... remember this post where I showed some handmade goodies? I didn't show you these photos before, to not ruin the surprise for my sister, but as she and my cousin received their gifts already, I can show you what those presents was...

Usando telas de diferentes texturas y colores hice tres bufandas de patchwork. Una para mi hermana, otra para mi prima Marcela y otra para mí. Las bufandas son un super sencillas y rápidas de hacer, pues las hice en una tarde y lo más entretenido fue elegir las telas. También es una buena forma de utilizar retazos o sobrantes de tela de otros proyectos. Using fabrics with different textures and colors I made ​​three patchwork scarves. One for my sister, one for my cousin Marcela and one for me. These scarves are super easy and quick to do, I made them in a evening and what the most time took me was to choose the fabrics. It is also a good way to use fabric scraps or leftovers from other projects.

Al final aunque todas tuvieron el mismo ancho, las tres fueron de diferentes largos (la mía mide 9" x 98"), y son un buen complemento para este otoño... ...y además son un bonito regalo! at the end all had the same width, but all were with different lengths (mine is about 9" x 98"), and they are a good complement to this fall ... and also they are a lovely gift!

y estoy pensando en hacer un par más y empezar a tener listos algunos de los regalos de fin de año... and I'm thinking to make a couple more to have ready some of the holidays gifts...
