una semana entera sólo para hacer esto:

...como pueden ver no he estado muy productiva estos días, pues aunque tenía planeado hacer mil cosas en casa, en realidad no hice gran cosa y eso me frustró un poquito...

ya sabes reservé tiempo libre y en mi cabeza me veía haciendo un montón de proyectos, ya fuera para mi tienda, para mí o para regalos... pero una vez que estuve en mi cuarto de costura no supe bien por dónde empezar, quería hacer de todo a la vez y aunque comencé a trabajar en el quilt que estoy haciendo, al momento en que tuve que ponerme a planchar las costuras me di cuenta que necesitaba hacer algo menos caluroso porque la temperatura no ha sido muy amable estos días... así que lo dejé... y comencé a cortar telas para hacer unas bolsas, pero fue todo lo que avancé...         ...luego me puse a seleccionar telas para otro quilt y una voz en mi cabeza me decía: pero qué haces? otro quilt? ponte a terminar el que ya tienes comenzado!!! así que lo dejé pero no volví a guardar las telas y continúan apiladas en mi mesa de trabajo....

... as you can see I haven't been very productive these days though I had planned to do a thousand things at home, I dont finished any big thing and that frustrated me a bit ...you know I reserved time off to spend it at my sewing room and in my head I saw doing a lot of projects, either to my shop, for myself or for gifts... but once I was in my sewing room I didn't know where to start, I wanted to do everything at once and although I started working on the quilt I'm doing, when I had to press the seams I realized I needed to do something less warm because the temperature has not been very nice these days here... so I left it... and began to cut fabrics to make some bags, but that was all what I did and I moved to do something else...    ...... then I started to select fabrics for another quilt and a voice in my head was saying: but what are you doing? another quilt? just finish which you have already begun! so I put this new proyect away but I didn't keep the fabrics in to the closet so they are still stacked on my table....

y ahora que es viernes veo que sólo logré terminar esta pequeña funda de patchwork que hice para cubrir una latita en donde tengo una de mis plantas suculentas... tengo la manía de guardar las latas y luego plantar suculentas ahí o darles otro uso... y me encanta hacerles fundas con algo de patchwork y usando mis retazos y esta vez creo que quedó linda :)      and now it's Friday and I only could finish this little patchwork cover to a tin can where I have one of my succulents ... I have the habit of save used cans to plant my succulents or give them another use... and I love make little covers for them using my scraps, and this time, at least I think it looks pretty :)

así que si me preguntas si tengo planes para el fin de semana, mi respuesta es no, mejor ya veré qué es lo que viene!

so if you ask me if I have plans for the weekend,  my answer is no, I think at this time will be better just see what comes!

a quick note...

Decidí hacer de nuevo estas bolsas usando las últimas piezas de estas telas que me quedaban... y están disponibles en mi tienda. I decided to make these bags again using that great fabrics, the last that I had... and they are available in my shop.

DIY: bugs trap / trampa para bichos

bichos en tus árboles? y no quieres usar pesticidas? aquí tienes la forma fácil de hacer una trampa casera para que los bichos no dañen los árboles frutales sin tener que usar insecticidas!

bugs in your trees? do not want to use pesticides? this is a easy homemade trap for the insects of your fruit trees without using pesticides!

esto es lo que necesitas:

cáñamo (también puedes usar hilaza o cualquier hilo grueso y resistente)

miel de abeja (una barata)

botella vacía de pet

tijeras de cocina

what you need:

fishing thread (you can use any yarn or heavy thread)

bee honey (a cheap one)

empty pet bottle

kitchen scissors

Con las tijeras corta la botella de forma que la parte inferior tenga el tamaño aproximado de 15 a 20 cm. Ver la foto. With the scissors cut the bottle so that the bottom is from 6 to 8 inchs (see the picture).

pon un cuarto de taza de miel en la botella

put a quarter cup of honey in the bottle

La parte de arriba la usarás como embudo. y la recortarás de modo que entre en la botella, cuidando que la boca no toque la miel. The top you will use it as a funnel. Cut a little the end to it fits in the bottle, be sure that the bottle mouth do not touch the honey. Usando el hilo o cáñamo, amarra la botella al árbol frutal que desees proteger tratando de que su base quede sentada en alguna rama.

Ahora ya puedes estar seguro de que los bichos vendrán pronto por miel y olvidarán las hojas, flores y frutos de tus árboles! Sólo cambia la miel cada que sea necesario.
Using the thread or yarn, fasten the bottle on the tree that you want to protect trying that the base is seated on a branch.

You can be sure now that the insects will come fast for the honey and they forget the leaves, flowers and fuits of your tree! Just replace the honey when it be necesary.

En nuestra casa encuentras algunos objetos que ya no tienen su uso original, desde frascos de vidrio, tapas de plástico hasta ropa... y afortunadamente no tenemos ningún aparato de gimnasio fungiendo como perchero... In our house you can find some items that no have their original use, from glass bottles, plastic covers to clothing ... and fortunately we don't have gym equipment serving as a clothes hanger...

bueno, pues algunas de cosas las muestró aquí... en un rincón medio oculto de nuestra cocina puedes ver estos cajones que originalmente contenían de fruta y que se encuentran en cualquier mercado... pero que ahora contienen nuestras botellas de vino... well, some of those things I show you here... in some hidden corner of our kitchen you can see these boxes that were originally for transporting or storing fruit and can found them in any market ... but now contains our wine bottles...

last minute fabric gift wrap (tutorial)

así que este es mi tutorial: so this is my tutorial:

lo que necesitas:
2 cuadrados de 2 diferentes telas (interior /exterior) de 8 1/2 pulgadas. Yo usé mis retazos: una de algodón (verde) y una mezcla de lino y algodón.
1 pieza de listón de 1/2 pulgada de ancho y de 21 pulgadas de largo
hilo que combine
* la costura es de 1/4 de pulgada

what you need:
2 squares from 2 diferent fabrics (inside/outside) about 8 1/2 inchs. I used my scrapps: one is cotton (the green one) and the other is linen/cotton fabric.
1 piece of ribbon 1/2 inch wide and 21 inches long
thread to match
*the seams is about 1/4 inch

y aquí vamos!! and here we go!

Ambos cuadrados se ponen del lado derecho cara a cara y se cosen alrrededor, dejando una apertura de 2" a un lado. Lay both squares right sides face to face and sew all around the edge, leaving a gap of about 2" in one side.

con cuidado corta las esquinas. carefully trim the corners.

Voltéalo hacia el lado derecho de la tela y plánchalo. Turn right side out and press.
Cose todo el contorno del cuadrado. Machine topstitch all around.

Dobla cada esquina hacia adentro de la tela exterior, aproximadamente 2 pulgadas de la punta al borde y prende con un alfiler (si el doblado de la esquina es más pequeño, tu bolsa será un poco más grande). Fold every corner to the outer fabric, about 2 inches from the tip to the edge and pin (if the corner fold is smaller, your bag will be largest).

después de hacerlo en cada esquina, tu cuadrado debe verse así: after doing so on every corner, your square should look like this:

en cada esquina doblada traza una línea de 1/2 pulgada de ancho a partir del borde at each folded corner, draw a 1/2 inch wide line from the top

y cose incima de cada una de las líneas que dibujaste:

ahora tu cuadro debe verse así:

con ayuda de un broche de seguridad pasa el listón por dentro de cada una de las esquinas dobladas... using a safety pin puts the ribbon inside each of the folded corners ...
ahora jala ambos extremos del listón para cerrar la bolsa...
Now pull both ends of the ribbon to close the bag ...

abre un poco y pon el objeto que vas a regalar... opened slightly and place the object you will going to give ...
cierra haciendo un lindo moño y ya está! closes doing a pretty bow and you're done!

puedes usarlo para regalarle un pequeño regalo a él... you can use it to give a little present for him...

o para ella... or for her....

una pequeña cortina que adapté ayer para la tarja de la terraza, mi mamá la hizo hace 7 años para el departamento donde Alex y yo vivíamos, es de manta y aunque tenía ya algunos agujeros pequeños, la reutilicé y le añadí el rickrack café para renovarla...
yesterday I modified these small curtain for the sink of the terrace, my mom made it 7 year ago for the apartment when Alex and me lived, is made of manta (mexican cotton) and although it had already some small holes i added the coffee rickrack to renew it...

coffee sack pillows

Por lo pronto sólo hice 2 cojines de 23 x 23 pulgadas, con los costales de café. Debo decir a favor de este material que es bastante agradable al tacto, y aunque el tejido es algo rústico, no pica como pudiera parecer. For now I only did 2 pillows of 23 x 23 inches, with the sacks of coffee. I must say about this material is quite pleasant to the touch, and although the fabric is somewhat rustic, does not itchy as it seems.

Antes de cortar los sacos los lavé en la lavadora con un poco de detergente regular y ciclo normal. No usé suavizante de telas. Los puse a secar en la secadora y sólo me aseguré de que no quedaran ni un poco húmedos. Before cutting the bags I washed them in the washer with some regular detergent and normal cycle and I didn't used fabric softener, then they was dried in the dryer and just i made sure that there's not even a little wet.

Para cortarlos, comencé a recortar las costuras de los lados con unas tijeras, pero me di cuenta que era bastante complicado y, contrario a lo que creí, fue más fácil hacerlo con el rotary cutter, así que así quité las costuras, para quedarme sólo con la tela. To cut them, I started removing both sides the seams with scissors, but I realized that it was quite hard and, contrary to what I thought was easier to do with the rotary cutter, so i cut the seams, to stay only with the fabric.

Las fundas de los cojines los hice como cualquier otro, sólo usé velcro para cerrarlos por atrás. Si lo quieres intentar debes de saber que durante todo el proceso tu área de trabajo se convierte en un desastre no muy limpio... ooohhh sí!! pues el jute va soltando pequeños hilos y pelusa, así que tu mesa, tu ropa, tu máquina y la zona que te rodea incluyendo claro, el piso, terminan con partes de yute... The covers of the cushions I made like any other, just i used velcro to close the back. If you want to try it you should know that throughout the process in your work area becomes a disaster and not very clean ... ooohhh yes! during all the job the jute dropping little threads and lint, so your table, your clothes, your machine and the area around you, including clear, floor, could will be with parts of jute ...

Sin embargo, creo que vale la pena pasar esos momentos "desastrosos", reciclando este material que de verdad da una apariencia super chida, ahorrar algo de dinero y obtener estos objetos que agregan un toque especial a la decoración de la casa y jardín, además de que claro, son super prácticos y durables. However, I think that is worth spending the "disastrous" time by recycling this material that really gives a super cool appearance, save some money and get these items that add a special touch to the decoration of the house and garden, besides that of course, they are super practical and durable.

...por cierto, ayer hizo un día fantástico aquí, el cielo estuvo de un azul muy intenso y el clima templado, un poco de viento pero sin ser frío y el sol sin calentar demasiado y daban ganas de salir a caminar... será porque yo no puedo salir ahora? hahahahahaha suele suceder, que cuando no puedes hacer algo precisamente "eso" es lo que se te antoja... al menos puedo estar en el porche que de verdad y con este otoño, lo agradezco! ...by the way, yesterday was a fantastic day here, the blue sky was intense and we had a great weather: some wind but without being cold and the sun not too hot and i felt want to walk ... is it because I can not go now? hahahahahaha that happens, when you can not do anything, just "it" is what you feel like doing ... I can at least be on the porch that truth and in this autum, I appreciate it!

Yo lo descubrí hace unos meses y bueno, déjame decirte que ha sido un viaje placentero visitarlo y descubrir todas las cosas lindas que ella hace con sacos de café.

I discovered a few months ago, and well, let me tell you, it was a great journey visit her blog and found all beautiful things she made with coffee sacks.

Desde entonces me ha rondado en la cabeza la idea de hacer algunas cosas con estos sacos, se me antojan para unos cojines en la terraza y el jardín, pues el jute es un material duradero y resistente, además que su color cubre perfectamente la tierra, pues aunque la idea no es tenerlos sucios, vamos, tirando al jardín los cojines para sentarte en ellos, claro que no durarían más que unas horas perfectamente limpios...! además es una excelente forma de reciclar!

Since then i have the idea to do some things with those sacks, i want to make cushions for the terrace and garden, as the jute is a durable and resistant material, plus the color covers the ground well, because you know although the idea is not dirty them, but pulling the cushions on the grass or floor to sit on them, of course it would not last more than a few hours perfectly clean ...! also is a great way to recycle!

Así que hace unos días, Alex me consiguió unos cuantos sacos de café (gracias cariño!) en la tienda en donde habitualmente compro mi adorada bebida... y ya los tengo en casa.... lavándose... secándose y aguardando el momento en que trabaje en ellos....

So a few days ago, Alex brought me some coffee sacks (thanks babe!) from the shop where i usually buy my beloved drink ... and now i have them at home .... washing them ... drying them and waiting the moment i working on them ....
